It is always at the juxtapositions of life that one is compelled to ask questions that cannot be answered without the lenses of faith. To come to God is “to believe that He is” and that “He rewards those who diligently seek Him”. Which begs the question “what does it mean to diligently seek [God]?” If by seeking, we are actively searching for the evidence of the Divine-how will we know if we have found it? That holy longing which is often described as “the God-shaped void” within can never be satisfied with theories that are mere products of the intellect. God sneaks into spaces that cannot be explained away- and utters the musical notes that call into being the substance of heaven. God is grander, larger, and more luminescent than my feeble candle of faith- a faith which is not required to be anything more than a humble spark. God will blow on my smoking flax until it flames into a torch that is brighter than any man-made fire. Come down O Love Divine- seek thou this soul of mine, and visit it with Thine own ardor dwelling. O Holy One draw near-within my heart appear, and kindle it the while my path illuming. The L-RD, slow to anger, full of compassion and lovingkindness, quick to forgive those who turn to Him. At the close and beginning of another year- have mercy.
